George rodrigue inspired dog sculptures
In this project third grade students were challenged to:
1. Student familiarized themselves with the work of artist George Rodrigue.
2. Students recalled facts about Rodrigue’s.
3. Students listened to a story Rodrigue wrote titled Why is the Blue Dog Blue?
4. Students discovered that they blue dog, isn’t always blue, and that Rodrigue uses the image of the blue dog to comment on life. Essentially, the blue dog is a symbol and form of communication for Rodrigue.
5. Students built a blue dog sculpture and learned how to paper mache.
6. Students painted their dog and used it to comment on life.
