Pillow self-portraits
Fifth grade artists drew a self-portrait using correct facial proportions. These means that the parts of our face are the correct size, in relation to other parts of our face. We also practiced putting facial features in the correct places. We thought we knew where they went, when in fact many of us draw our eyes, nose, and mouth to far up on our face. After doing a practice drawing of our face, we re-drew our portrait on a piece of muslin. Then we colored our pictures in with colored pencils. Students then cut and glued that fabric together. Once the glue was dry, students stuffed their pillows with flufferfill. See if you can guess which pillow belongs to which person! We drew our portraits very realistically; so it shouldn’t be too hard for you to figure it out!
