Weaving project
Fifth grade artists learned about four cultures that practice weaving as an art
form. The regions include: America, The Philippines, and the Middle East. We
watched video clips of these cultures weaving on different types of looms. The
video clips also showed different materials that can be used to weave including:
reeds and wool. Students were given a demonstration on basic weaving techniques. We practiced how to thread needle before we began our project. We used a paper plate and yarn to create a loom. Students were encouraged to make patterns, designs, and add embellishments.
